The alternator uses your car's engine to recharge the battery. The alternator recycles your car's mechanical energy and converts it to electrical power. Without it, your vehicle's battery will be left without charge and you'll be left on the side of the road. An alternator has similar function to that of a distributor. It produces alternating current while the engine is running which is then transformed into direct current to charge the battery and power up the car's electrical system. Its strong construction allows it to use smaller pulleys to enable it to turn faster than the engine for an improved output when the engine is idle. It can provide enough electricity to electrical components that the car battery could not power up. Faulty alternator will fail to supply electricity to the electrical system of the vehicle and will not be able to recharge the battery which will cause the battery to drain faster. Auto Parts Network carries all the parts you need to power up your vehicle.
