He researched and laid out the groundwork for the current web service/J2EE platform, analyzing different network protocols and software topologies such as Java Enterprise Beans and integration with web services using SOAP, XML, RMI, and application platforms such as JBoss, Oracle OC4J and Apache software projects. Further projects in J2EE dealt with Enterprise Java Beans to communicate with back-end systems and front-end web services implementing the MVC design paradigm. Working alongside fellow engineers, Hofmanns research fostered live production systems. Other projects included using XML to create business-to-business interfaces that plugged into current systems which enabled them to seamlessly delegate orders from CJXpress, the online ordering system, to third party companies.

He built a scheduler system to download feeds from various sources and invoke the previously built parser system for feeds from the Internet -- back when many banks weren't even connected over the Internet.
To put the product in its finishing stages, final work concentrated on creating an extensive help system across the whole application and financial data exportation functionality using Microsoft ASP, SQL Server and JavaScript/HTML. The system communicated with Citibank and operated by using dynamically linked libraries in VC++ to parse proprietary financial documents for import into highly normalized database systems.
From February 1999 to November 2000, Daniel Hofmann worked as a software engineer at Base Ten Systems Inc., a public company in the computer software industry with over 1000 employees. Hofmann created various tools that helped automate the software development process, including a program to manage the multilingual features of Base Tens products, which were used in countries around the world. Y2K issues were abundant in all of Base Tens products, and only two months after being assigned the task of repairing all Y2K related issues, the internal testing department verified the correctness and completeness of his work.
