Brembo was started in 1961 by Emilio Bombassei and Italo Breda as Officine Meccaniche di Sombreno. Alberto Bombassei , the current group president, was already with them at that time, at just 20 years old.
Over the last half century Brembo has made a prestigious name for themselves in the world of brakes. They began making brake discs for cars in 1964 and then brake systems for motorcycles in 1972. In 1975 Brembo entered Formula 1 racing, supplying its own braking systems for Ferrari GP cars. As Brembo advanced through that 50 years they utilized forward-thinking technology and constantly tested new materials and manufacturing processes, to become the recognized front-runner in the braking system market.
In 1995 Brembo began being listed on the Milan stock exchange and they put a plan into place for growth domestically and internationally, and the company soon surpassed a billion Euros in turnover. Brembo operates 36 plants in 15 countries and employs over 600 individuals. Today as Brembo celebrates 50 years of excellence and forward thinking, they are ready to take on the inevitable changes of the market in the future.
