Holiday Parking Tips

Parking at the mall during the holiday season can really smack the joy out of anyone—turning loving mothers into lioness’ hunting for the perfect spot. And honestly, that may be the mentality you need when looking for a parking spot. Here are some tips on how to deal with parking during the holiday rush.

Start with a plan—figure out which mall you’re going to, which stores you’ll stop by, and most importantly what time you’ll go. Common sense tells you to go early and avoid the crowds but if you’re not a morning person, this option is already out the door. Consider the middle of day when early shoppers are on the outs and the evening crowd hasn't arrived yet.

When it comes to actual parking lots, again, you’re on the prowl. There’s an unspoken etiquette when it comes to parking (e.g. head nods to signify that people are leaving) so be aware of your actions. Everyone is there to get a space but be aware of others entering and leaving the lot.

Good ways to avoid mall lots is to opt for street parking and parking garages instead. You may be more on a time limit when it comes to street parking and the costs of parking garages can get up there, but these two options might be better than spending time circling around lots.
