Even though the Super Bowl is over, the commercials will last. Automakers put their creative team in overdrive as each car commercial raced to be the fan favorite and this year we saw everything from celebrity packed cameos (Willem Dafoe, Usher AND Kate Upton hamming it up for Mercedes-Benz) to babies from space, and even a homage to farmers. What were some other highlights?
Audi was able to achieve a simple coming-of-age-story in 60 seconds with their “Prom” commercial. A kid going to his high school prom stag builds up his confidence and makes it a night to remember after his dad tosses his son the keys to his S6.
Ram’s “Farmer” was basically the anti-Super Bowl ad—nothing crazy, nothing over-the-top—it was a small reminder of the early days of America’s backbone. Ram’s approach to captivate the audience with simplicity and pride was nice, but did it sell their trucks?
Ditching the hamsters and opting for killer fembots acting as car show booth girls, the car commercial for Kia’s Forte was fun and hit home to those car enthusiasts at big auto shows. Make sure not to dis “respect the tech” when you’re at one, or those car models just might kick your butt.
