Delphi Corporation started in 1991 as the parts division of General Motors called Automotive Components Group. In 1995 ACG was renamed to Delphi Automotive Systems and in 1997 GM's Delco Electronics was transferred to Delphi. In 1999 Delphi Automotive Systems became a fully independent publicly held corporation and in 2002 Delphi Automotive Systems was renamed to Delphi Corporation, to more accurately represent the diversification of its business direction. Not only did Delphi become the second largest manufacturer of Diesel Fuel Injection equipment worldwide when they acquired the diesel systems business of Lucas TRW in 2000, but they are also heavily involved in the XM Satellite Radio and GPS markets. Today Delphi is based out of Troy, Michigan and is a primary supplier of electronics and technologies for automotive commercial vehicles and other market segments around the world. Delphi has major technical centers, manufacturing plants and customer support facilities in 30 countries and provides innovations for the real world that help to make products smarter and safer, in addition to more powerful and efficient.
Delphi has won honors for facilities worldwide because of their commitment to the environment. At Delphi, going "green" is more than just an idea. Delphi is dedicated to getting innovations for the real world on the road and they invest in "green" technology that fulfills the needs of the marketplace today while also protecting the environment. Delphi's concrete methods for lessening their environmental impact and reducing their contribution to global warming are: An efficient manufacturing process that is finely tuned, products meticulously designed to continue improving, use of recycled materials when they can and working towards a decreasing dependency on natural resources. Discoveries in the areas of miniaturization, automation and materials are critical to being able to meet both customers' cost and quality demands, and government requirements for fuel economy and CO2 emissions. Delphi demonstrates their commitment to sustainability by helping manufacturers lessen environmental impact by making products that require less resources, improve fuel economy, lower emissions and encourage recyclability. Delphi is on the forefront on environmental issues and sets an example for manufacturers worldwide by designing products with environmental, health and safety performance built in, by managing energy globally to reduce total energy consumption and other initiatives they have put in place. Delphi's dedication to environmental sustainability extends to all their employees and is focused on the future. They realize that there will be no doing business in the future without sustainability for the environment.
It is important to Delphi that they encourage a culture of passion and creativity, and that their employees are proud to work there. Delphi values the diversity of their workforce and they have employees of every educational background, age, race and gender. In each community where there is a Delphi Facility they encourage employees to be involved in the community and to contribute to community projects and charities. Delphi makes environmental responsibility a priority and strives to make "green" practices a part of all they do. Delphi also promotes improving vehicle safety with their products designed for those areas. Delphi believes that this culture is fostered not by occasional gestures, but is integral to everything they do.
