Dorman Products, Inc., based in Colmar, Pennsylvania, actually was founded in 1918 by brothers Jack and Lew Dorman and this is where they got their start in the automotive industry. In 1925 Jack Dorman bought a punch press and started Dorman Star Washer Co. Dorman created "The Wing" as its signature logo in 1937. By 1955 Dorman had already pulled ahead of the norms of that time with category administration through creative merchandising. R&B, Inc. was founded by brothers Richard and Steven Berman in 1978. Motormite Manufacturing was started as an aftermarket division of R&B, Inc. in 1980. In 1981 the forward-thinking HELP! Hard-To-Find Parts brand was started. R&B went public and was listed on NASDAQ in 1991. R&B, Inc. acquires Dorman Products, Inc. in 1994. In 2001 the OE Solutions brand was formed. In 2006 the new Dorman brand strategy was started.
Dorman has been known by several names through the years including Dorman, R&B, Motormite and Motormite/Dorman. In 2006 Dorman began repositioning their brands to bring them together under one corporate organization, with products and catalogs standardized to make it easier for their customers to find what they need. Dorman will be able to utilize the recognition of the Dorman name by doing this and will have many chances to create a positive impression by utilizing consistent packaging, product identity and advertising. "New" is a way of life at Dorman and whether we are talking about basic automotive hardware or all the way up to Dorman-engineered, application-specific hard parts our focus has always been and will continue to be on originating new products, new solutions and new opportunities.
