Eric Edelmann started Edelmann (now Plews & Edelmann), in 1909, when his entire product line was made up of a battery tester and push-pull control cables. After a few years he began making anti-freeze testers, automotive brass fittings and general products. Edelmann began distributing a selection of power steering hoses in 1959 and in 1960 took over the production of the hoses. The company started out manufacturing power steering hoses for 25 vehicles - now the Edelmann catalog is made up of over 1,800 part numbers. Edelmann now provides the automotive industry with over 3,500 selections of power steering hose and brass and plastic fittings from their cutting-edge facility in Dixon, Illinois. Edelmann supplies a large variety of products that involve specialized manufacturing processes. They make products engineered selectively for their customers' specialized needs.
Edelmann is committed to the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), in how it does business and realizes the role it plays in the success of their business. Edelmann makes CSR a part of their overall culture and has taken active steps to move forward in this area: Edelmann earned ISO 9001 in 2003 and ISO 14001 in 2004; They developed a Supplier Rating Program to measure their suppliers' performance on such issues as safety and environmental programs and compliance. This year Edelmann added ratings and criteria for a Human Rights Survey; Changed from standard petroleum based lubricants in their Screw Machines to new biobased lubricants, which is not only better for the environment, but also reduces friction and increases the life of cutting tools; LubriMatic Green was introduced, which is a line of biobased, biodegradable lubricants; Reduced the amount of electricity used for lighting at the Dixon, Illinois facility by changing to energy saving fixtures, bulbs and motion activated switches in offices.
