Lunati has been making quality engine parts since the 1960s and is one of the performance and racing aftermarket's most popular companies. Based in Memphis, Tennessee, Lunati has been providing racers and engine builders with camshafts and valve train parts since the late 1960's. Over the years Lunati added crankshafts, rods, pistons, piston rings and complete engine rotating assemblies. Lunati's growth was strong and steady during the first 20 years, helped by not only their quality products, but also by the personal service and expert advice that became a trademark. This allowed Lunati to grow from a very small operation to a respectable sized and successful presence in the performance and racing aftermarket. Lunati's founder, Joe Lunati, was a former drag racer and knew that the ability for any race engine to make power was going to be in the cylinder heads, induction system and camshaft, and that it was of primary importance that each of these important pieces were matched together properly. He was particularly interested in camshafts and how different lobe profiles might give an advantage. At that time Joe Lunati worked for a Memphis production engine rebuilder and Joe would use the shop's cam grinder late in the evenings to grind his first cams. He continued his racing career and had many winning seasons through the 1960's. In 1968 Lunati decided to open his own cam grinding shop and by 1970 Lunati Cams had already made their place in the racing cam market, primarily with weekend sportsmen drag racers and local Memphis area circle track racers. Joe Lunati always made his personal, friendly service part of the package along with the best quality products around. By the 1990's Lunati Cams & Cranks had developed into a successful and good-sized company, so that Holley Carburetors saw their potential and bought Lunati. Holley's ownership lasted for several years, but the company went through some hard times because of over-aggressive expansion during the early 2000's and Holley sold Lunati Cams in late 2007, marking the beginning of the "new Lunati." The new Lunati represented a return to old values and ways of doing business, including the personal relationships with qualified experts to rebuild their customer's trust. Lunati is well-positioned for the future with the new owners providing additional financial resources to invest in high-tech equipment and machinery, allowing them to achieve higher accuracy and repeatability for all products, as well as add additional staff that are experienced and qualified, with actual racing experience.
Lunati has been making high quality engine parts using the latest technology since the 1960s. All of their products are subjected to rigorous testing and analysis to ensure their products are perfectly engineered to perform and still be able to function under tough racing conditions.
