TRICO Products started with an accident in 1917 where J.R. Oishei hit a bicyclist. The bicyclist was not seriously injured, but J.R. Oishei was disturbed by this incident and determined to find a solution to the problem of maintaining vision while driving in the rain. Oishei formed the Tri-Continental Corporation, which introduced the first windshield wiper, Rain Rubber, for the slotted, two-piece windshields common on most popular cars at that time. TRICO is now one of the primary manufacturers of windshield wiping systems, windshield wiper blades and refills, and now has plants on five continents. TRICO's dedication to clear driving vision has been responsible for almost every significant development in the windshield wiper industry. When car manufacturers weatherproofed the slot in the windshield in the late nineteen-teens, the popular Rain Rubber became obsolete. TRICO soon invented the hand-operated "Crescent Cleaner," which mounted in a hole above the windshield and became standard equipment on virtually all cars in the early 1920s. TRICO has accomplished many breakthroughs over the years including the Automatic Vacuum Wiper motor in 1921, Windshield Washer Systems in 1936, Vacuum Rear Windshield Systems in 1959, Turbine Pumps for washer fluid in 1970, the Electric Rear Wiper System in 1981, Universal Washer Pump in 1988, the Direct Drive Motor in 2006 and many more. TRICO went international in 1928 when TRICO UK, a manufacturing plant in Bretford, England, was opened. They further expanded internationally in 1957 with TRICO Australia and 2005 with TRICO China. In addition to windshield wiper technology, TRICO Products has been a primary player in the development of door locks (vacuum and electric), power window controls, horns and retractable headlight activators. TRICO, based in Rochester Hills, MI, has been a trailblazer in the windshield wiper industry for the past ten decades and is dedicated to continuing as the industry trendsetter into the future.
TRICO's rigid quality requirements and their ability to equal and even surpass those requirements is tested daily and they pass. TRICO Products has the TS16949, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications, as well as Ford's Q1 Preferred rating, the Chrysler Gold Pentastar, German VDA 6.1 certification and others. TRICO has formed their reputation by bringing together their dedication to quality with the ability to fulfill what they say they will do. TRICO utilizes their innovative laboratory facilities to conduct a system of testing that subjects their products to even tougher conditions than real world for extended periods of time in order to provide forward-thinking solutions for their customers.
