An engine crankshaft position sensor is a sensor ring with lobes which monitors the position and rotational rate of the crankshaft in an engine and then sends the information to the electronic control module. The information sent is then used by the module to control accurate ignition timing and fuel injection timing for an engine’s optimal level of performance. A faulty engine crankshaft position sensor will send inaccurate readings to the ECM, which in turn makes the engine hard to start, resulting to poor engine performance like engine hesitation upon acceleration.
