A clutch master cylinder is a device in a hydraulic clutch system that drives the clutch slave cylinder. It is directly connected to the clutch pedal which and generates a hydraulic pressure when the clutch pedal is pressed. The generated pressure is then applied to the clutch slave cylinder which operates the clutch release fork to disengage the transmission from to engine to allow the driver to change gears. The clutch master cylinder is equipped with a reservoir to store the fluid to prevent air from entering which will cause the clutch pedal to develop a spongy feeling and the clutch system not to function properly.
