A distributor rotor, also called as rotor arm, is a component in the distributor that arcs the high voltage that will be sent to the spark plug. As the distributor rotor rotates, the resultant high voltage from the coil is then arced through a small gap to each successive terminal around the distributor cap. The high voltage pulse will then travel to the spark plug wires and to the spark plug to produce a spark needed for combustion to take place. A faulty distributor rotor will fail to supply the high voltage needed by the spark plugs that may prevent combustion to begin. Malfunctioning distributor rotor may also send high voltage pulses at the wrong time which will result in poor engine performance.
