EBC Brakes started in 1978 as an importer distributing products from a single van. They have grown over the years to be an international group with over 400 employees and manufacturing in three countries, and are now known as the FREEMAN GROUP of Companies. EBC manufactures the widest range of brake pads and discs worldwide. EBC manufactures brake discs, clutches and disc brake pads for motorcycles, all terrain vehicles (ATV or Quads), mountain bikes, go karts (or shifter karts), and automobiles. The group also owns 100% of the shareholding of EFI (European Friction Industries Ltd), of Bristol, UK, who is Europe's primary independent manufacturer of disc brake pads. EFI has been making heavy brakes for commercial vehicles (trucks and trailers), earth moving equipment such as bulldozers and dump trucks, and railway applications for the last 50 years. Andy Freeman, founder and now Managing Director, still owns the group and is a strong believer in British manufacturing. EBC Brakes and EFI are firmly committed to not importing any brake product from third world countries and to manufacture every part possible in its own facilities. It is EBC Brakes' philosophy that sAFEty products like brake parts should be hand-crafted and made with the utmost care and attention to quality, rather than the cheapest price. EBC Brakes takes pride in their products, as well as the team that works for them and plans to keep designing new ideas based on British and US manufacturing of superior quality parts for the demanding customer.
Often the vibration sometimes experienced when braking is referred to as being caused by bent or warped rotors, but this is in fact an incorrect term. EBC Brakes has never seen a warped brake disc or rotor due to use. Brake rotors are made from cast iron, a very tough and durable material, and there is a reason for that – they can be run to red heat and cooled time after time without distorting. Brake rotors simply do not warp. This is why cast iron is used for brake rotors the world over – there has never been another material that can beat it and very likely never will be. What EBC has commonly seen happen is brake vibration after 3000-6000 miles that is actually caused by run out (unevenness of the brake rotor surface), at install, which c...
Read MoreEveryone knows that EBC Brakes makes quality performance brakes for cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATVs and mountain bikes (yep, they even make disc brakes for mountain bikes!), as well as heavy trucks through their EFI division, but how many know they also make high quality air filters, carburetion parts and clutches for motorcycles and ATVs? EBC makes quality air filters (through S & B), for motorcycles and ATVs that can be used with or without oil. S & B custom air filters feature a filter media material made by Dupont called Reemay, which has superior filtering characteristics and allows better air flow. EBC carburetion products are made through their sister company, ABAX Engineering, for tuning your motorcycle or ATV for ideal performance accordi...

EBC Brakes believes that since we all live in this world, we all need to take care of it. EBC is committed to this philosophy and has never tried to make the cheapest brakes, since cheap materials in brakes cause abuse of people and the environment. Chemicals in brakes that might end up in rivers and streams are never used in EBC products, nor are brake materials that give off toxic gas vapors and pollute the atmosphere. EBC Brakes works with the University of Exeter on its ELV project, which stands for End of Vehicle Life. This project began as a way to eliminate toxic ingredients commonly used in the brake pad industry. The project will continue to do research and design materials that use organic components, where EBC is definitely ahead of the curve. EBC Brakes' products are not necessarily the lowest price around, but ultimately they have a lower cost in terms of lifestyle and the health of the world around you.
EBC Brakes recognizes that research and development are the lifeblood of success in manufacturing brakes and they take pride in their elaborate R&D facilities located at their Bristol manufacturing plant, which includes full chemistry, friction development and testing facilities including five dynamometers. Every compound used at EBC Brakes must comply with production tests (to ensure compliance with R90 regulation), but is also refined within the R90 standards to ensure the part performs up to precise standards. The R&D engineers do research, testing and homologation of established and new formulations and production processes that can reduce rejects and enhance production efficiency.
