An ABS wheel speed sensor or anti-lock brake system wheel speed sensor is a type of tachometer that measures the rotational speed of the wheels and then sends the information to the ABS electronic control module or ABS ECU. The information provided by the ABS wheel speed sensor is then used to determine if one or more of the wheels are locking up or skidding during hard braking. A malfunctioning vehicle speed sensor sends inaccurate signal to the ABS ECU which may result to decreased braking performance.
