An engine crankshaft, also known as crank, is a main rotating shaft running the length of the engine and transforms linear piston movement into rotational one. As the pistons move up and down, the connecting rods move the crankshaft around wherein the turning motion of the crankshaft is transmitted to the transmission and eventually to the driving wheels. It is supported by main bearings and connected to a flywheel to reduce the pulsation attribute of the four stroke cycle which effectively decreases torsion vibrations caused by the cylinders applied in the crankshaft. Broken engine crankshafts will cause misalignment to the connected parts and damage to the engine block operation.
