An alternator drive belt is a serpentine belt that drives the alternator. When the engine is operating, the crankshaft turns the alternator drive belt, which in turn spins the alternator pulley on the rotor shaft, thus helping the alternator in producing electricity. The higher tension applied to the belt will also increase the rate of wear that will soon lead to crack or breakage. A broken alternator drive belt will prevent the alternator from working properly, causing the belt to slip on the alternator pulley instead of turning it which may result to serious operation failure.
