Differential

The differential is a unit that drives a pair of wheels with an equal amount of torque while allowing them to rotate at variable speeds. It takes the rotational force of the drive shaft to the axles at right angles to make the wheels on both sides rotate while allowing them to rotate at different speed when the vehicle is turning. Worn out differential may cause damage to some of its components that may prevent the gears from functioning, rendering the differential in a locked state. Locked differentials will force the axles to rotate at the same speed which will result either of the tires to skid, which in turn increases the wear rate of the tires when the vehicle is turning and unpredictable handling.
