The mass air flow sensor converts the amount of air flowing into the engine into a voltage signal to allow the ECM to accurately calculate the appropriate engine load. The data supplied by the mass air flow sensor is necessary to determine how much fuel to inject, when to ignite the cylinder, and when to shift the gearbox.
