It's quick and easy.
A universal joint, also referred to as hooke or cardan joint, allows the transfer of torque between two shafts, from the driven shaft to the driving shaft, which are angled at each other. Its double pivot design is consisted of two Y-shaped yokes, shafts with U-joint ends, that are joined together by a cross-shaped connector called the spider. A universal joint is, most of the time, used in trucks, SUV's or off-road applications, where vehicles require higher ground clearance. Universal joints may also be used in other vehicles where components located underneath prevents the use of a single straight driveshaft.
